Drawing and Talking Therapy

A few of our learners have been accessing Drawing and Talking Therapy in school. This takes place weekly for one on one 30 minute sessions with a practitioner. This is a non-directive form of therapy, where the child can take the lead and spend the session however they would like.

They are given an A4 piece of paper and a pencil (no rubber because there are no mistakes in D&T Therapy). Some learners have been enjoying getting some quiet time and drawing, whilst others have spent it talking about whatever is on their mind. It is an effective way to process unresolved traumatic memories, and to get learners opening up with a trusted adult in a safe, containing environment. There is space for new learners to access this with consent from their parents/carers.
